    Voters in Douglas County stepped up Tuesday to approve a referendum for a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for capital improvements to fund roadway and transportation, fire/EMS and a public safety digital radio system and parks and recreation. With all precincts reporting, the unofficial results showed 28,736 yes votes, or 51.41 percent, to 27,156 no votes, or 48.59 percent, on the 1-cent special purpose local option sales tax that will go into effect in April 2017.

    Anthony Ruffin and Derius Fifer pled guilty on Aug. 31 in non-negotiated pleas to two counts of armed robbery and one count of possession of a stolen firearm, according to a release from the Douglas County District Attorney's Office. Judge William "Beau" McClain sentenced Fifer to 40 years with the first 20 to be served in prison.
