    CHICOPEE -- Fast-acting police officers and an even faster-acting police dog caught a 40-year-old Athol man after he was allegedly spotted breaking into soda machines at the Memorial Drive Super Stop & Shop early Monday. The incident began about 3:25 a.m. when Officer Daniel Surprenant was sent to the Stop & Shop and saw a vehicle speed out of the parking lot, according to a post on the department's Facebook page .

    GREENFIELD - A 23-year-old driver from Shirley is facing vehicular homicide and other charges in connection with an August crash on Route 2 in Athol that killed an elderly woman and left an elderly man seriously injured. Katherine Stockdale , 23, was arraigned Tuesday in Franklin District Court on charges of vehicular homicide, manslaughter, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over age 60. Mary Carey, spokeswoman for Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan, said the assault and battery charges stem from Stockdale driving recklessly just before the accident.
