The Gators scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a one-run deficit and then watched closer John Bird retire Carmel in order in the seventh to clinch a 4-2 victory at Municipal Stadium.

    Adhir Ravipati has been promoted to head coach at Menlo-Atherton.The offensive coordinator for parts of the last three seasons at Menlo-Atherton, Ravipati, 27, replaces Sione Taufoou, who stepped down a month ago after five years as head coach.Also an assistant on the Menlo-Atherton boys basketball team the past season, Ravipati was a multi-sport athlete in high school at Harker. He played two years of college football for Jim Harbaugh at the University of San Diego.

    In a game with hard-to-believe twists and turns, Menlo-Atherton defeated host Piedmont Hills 55-52 in overtime in a Central Coast Section Division I girls basketball playoff game Wednesday. Menlo-Atherton appeared to be comfortably in control with a 12-point lead at halftime and a nine-point lead after three quarters.
