  1. Re: Bike Lanes on El Camino Real in Menlo Park?Read the original story

Tuesday Aug 25 | Menlo Park City Council

I'm a fellow bicyclist but I find that whether or not the bike lane is added, it won't cut down on traffic...example would be check out the bike lanes near SJSU...yes they look awesome but still doesn't reduce traffic...raise up gas prices to $7.00 a gallon and see whether the bike is needed...keep up the great work Mr. Duboc Sent from my iPhone > On Aug 19, 2015, at 4:05 PM, Menlo Park's Future > Bike Lanes on El Camino Real in Menlo Park? > > Fellow Residents. > > On Tuesday, our City Council will be studying one hot topic: > > whether to eliminate parking and add a lane of auto traffic to El Camino Real in Menlo Park.

  2. Questions to consider...Read the original story

Monday Aug 24 | Menlo Park City Council

As you contemplate the proposed options for El Camino, please consider these questions: 1. If we put our north/south bicycle lanes on El Camino, what bike lanes will bicyclists connect to in Palo Alto and in Atherton? [Answer: there are none on El Camino!] Why not put our bike lanes along Alma to connect seamlessly with the path on Alma in Palo Alto? This is a matter that should be coordinated across cities.

  3. Bikes on El CaminoRead the original story

Monday Aug 24 | Menlo Park City Council

To the city council, There is no point in encouraging bikers to ride on El Camino in Menlo Park when the conditions on El Camino in Palo Alto and Atherton do not support and are treacherous for bikers!!! We need to imagine where the bike commuter will need to get to after leaving Menlo Park! The existing established bike route in Palo Alto is Bryant Street and we can access it from the Alma Street bike bridge at San Francisquito Creek. Until we build a tunnel under the tracks at Middle for riders to and from west Menlo we should improve and extend a partially existing bike trail along the West side of the train tracks behind the Big Five, Bev Mo parking lot and behind the former Tesla lot.

  8. RE: A Motorist Commission for Menlo Park?Read the original story

Saturday Aug 22 | Menlo Park City Council

Lee, I agree with you and I will add that our neighboring cities: Redwood City, Atherton, Palo Alto, Los Altos and Mountain View should work on a comprehensive plan for ECR. It's already a nightmare to drive on ECR with cities making changes without coordination.

Dear City Council, As a life long local cyclist and with my wife Ana Williamson as a long time business owner in Menlo Park, I would like to express support for the proposed bike lanes on El Camino in Menlo Park. Anything to promote more cycling is very positive from an overall wellness standpoint going forward.

  11. ECR traffic laneRead the original story

Wednesday Aug 19 | Menlo Park City Council

Council members, Traffic is a terrible situation on El Camino and will become worse as more development is coming to Menlo Park, Redwood City and Palo Alto. Let's allow for three lanes of traffic, one of which can be bike sharing as we do in other parts of the City.

  12. Bike Lane on El Camino RealRead the original story

Wednesday Aug 19 | Menlo Park City Council

I bicycled to work for a decade, and more years for pleasure, and I would never use El Camino Real. There is too much activity on ECR, including an enormous number of vehicles going in and out of commercial property and streets, so it can never be made safe enough for a bike lane, regardless of buffer size or green paint.

Jul 6, 2015 | Menlo Park City Council

Kelly, I am always sad for us to lose a tree, but if it has to come down, there is a great business in downtown Menlo Park that takes fallen trees and makes beautiful modern furniture out of the wood. I would strongly support the school board allowing this local business to have the tree trunk to make some furniture that might be auctioned at your next school fund raiser.

If it must be taken down, how about doing something cool with the wood for the City, school, or neighbors? Someone could probably turn out something very nice and maybe raise funds for the school in the process. Jun 21, 2015 | Menlo Park City Council

We need walk/bike bridges OVER el camino NOT lanes beside it!!!!!! We have plenty of ways to get to town/schools already. What we need are bike bridges that connect east and west Menlo so we don't have to go near el camino! I don't know what crazy person would ever wxnt to have their kid ride their bike on el camino real ! Seriously! Read more info below? 17. Fwd: bikes on El CaminoRead the original story

May 19, 2015 | Menlo Park City Council

Council Members, If El Camino is recon figured with bike lanes, it will imply a level of safety that simply will not be there crossing intersections and dozens of commercial driveways. Further, the weaving of cars and bikes for right turns will hamper everyone, including our older drivers.

May 13, 2015 | Menlo Park City Council

Dear Council Members and City Manager Mcintyre, In thinking even more about what I wrote in point #3 below, I realized that rather than "imagining" what traffic safety engineers would say about the benefits of a straight bike lane with a 2 foot safety barrier vs. a heritage tree greenery, winding bike path and no barrier, we should know what traffic safety engineers recommend to be the safest approach. This shouldn't be a gut feel thing that lay people guess about and vote on.
