But the reality of recurring school shootings means students at local schools, in addition to practicing duck-and-cover drills for a possible earthquake and learning where to go when the fire alarm rings, now also practice school lockdowns. Reality means teachers now must decide what would be the safest place in their classrooms if gunshots are heard in the corridors or outside the windows.

    The normally staid tennis atmosphere was punctuated with yelling and screaming as the Menlo-Atherton and Carlmont boys' tennis teams met in Belmont Wednesday with the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division title on the line. Clearly the best two teams in the Bay Division, M-A and Carlmont met in the final regular-season match of the season - one that had been delayed three times.
