    Ila Lane scored 16 points, Tatiana Reese added 14 and the Priory girls basketball team held off Menlo-Atherton, 53-48, on the first day of the Cardinal Newman Classic at Santa Rosa Junior College on Thursday night. Lane and Menlo-Atherton's Greer Hoyem, who also scored 16 points, are two of the top post players in the area and they battled in the paint all night in what seemed more like a postseason preview than a season-opener.

    A scholarship is being established in the memory of Menlo-Atherton student-athlete Aisea "Bojack" Mataele, who passed away in December, 2016, during his first year of high school. The scholarship will be awarded to a Menlo-Atherton football player who best exemplifies the three key pillars intended to serve as the foundation of M-A football: academic excellence and service to the community as well as performance on the football field.
