    A 39-year-old east Athens woman reported she was raped in a van Wednesday afternoon by a man who gave her a ride home, Athens-Clarke County police said. The woman said the suspect, who she knew only by his first name, offered her a ride because it was raining out at the time, police said.

    A Clarke County Superior Court judge recently granted a $250,000 bond to a man who has been jailed on a murder charge for nearly a year in connection with a May 2014 drive-by shooting outside an Athens nightclub that killed one man and wounded another. Corey Antwan Blount, 34, is charged with malice murder for the shooting death of Derrick Lee Merritt, 22, and aggravated assault for the wounding of Jamaris Antrellis Walter, also 22. Both victims were Athens residents who were shot outside the Bootleggers nightclub on Commerce Road.
