Proceeds of that special levy, which account for slightly more than one-third of the ADDA's revenue , provides those property owners with a liaison to the county government, access to special loan and grant programs and downtown enhancement initiatives such as the recent Independence Day holiday weekend festival and fireworks show held in the eastern end of the downtown area.

Judy Winn of Bowman was driving her Honda CRX north on Hull Road at about 3 p.m. last Thursday when she attempted a left turn onto Old Hull Road, diving directly into the path of a tractor-trailer truck that was northbound on Hull Road, according to an Athens-Clarke County police accident report.

    Anthony Bernard Zackery, 53, was thrown over the handle bars of his bicycle as he attempted to stop for the bus, and he landed in the roadway where he was run over by a back wheel of the Athens Transit bus, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The fatal accident occurred just after 8 p.m. Zackery was riding his bicycle east on the northern sidewalk along Nellie B Avenue, approaching Martin Circle, and the bus was traveling in the same direction on Nellie B Avenue, with its turn signal on as it prepared to turn onto Martin Circle, according to the state patrol.
