    More than two dozen downtown Athens businesses were checked by agents of the Georgia Department of Revenue's Alcohol and Tobacco Division on Friday night, resulting in the issuance of 11 citations to individuals who were in violation of unspecified state alcohol laws, and the possible pending issuance of administrative citations to the businesses themselves. According to an email issued Monday through the office of Michael Earnest, assistant director for enforcement in the revenue department's alcohol and tobacco division, 26 downtown businesses were checked for compliance with state alcohol regulations on Friday night into early Saturday.
