    Less than 24 hours after a freight train slammed into a car in Ashland, officials confirmed another vehicle was hit by a train near the town's historic train station and Randolph-Macon College Sunday night. Chip Watts with Ashland Police said officers were called for a report of a car on the tracks at England Street and North Center Street around 6:25 p.m. As of 8 p.m., Watts said the scene was still active and that officers were investigating the cause of the accident.

    A Hanover man was issued two summonses on state weapons charges after Transportation Security Administration officers found a loaded 9 mm handgun in his carry-on bag Sunday. "TSA officers immediately contacted the Richmond International Airport Police, which responded, confiscated the gun and issued the man, a resident of Ashland, Virginia, two summonses to appear in court," TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said.

    A rising senior at Patrick Henry High School launched a GoFundMe to raise donations for the Hanover shelter that took in 68 dogs - many puppies - after they were found living in unhealthy conditions.
