One campfire Monday escaped and burned approximately three-quarters of an acre on private land near the Toothpick Trailhead south of Ashland's city limits.

    Ashland's carbon footprint will be a little smaller and the school district's wallet a little fatter after its second propane-powered school bus joins the rest of the fleet in the coming weeks, just in time for the 2016-17 school year starting Aug. 29. According to Ashland School District director of transportation Stacey Delgado, the district purchased its first bus powered by liquid propane for vehicles, also known as autogas, last summer and bought another this year from the same company - Western Bus Sales out of Boring, east of Portland - which is expected to arrive soon.
