    Friends, family and community members turned out in droves Saturday to support first-grade teacher Theresa Gusek at the 15th annual Ashburnham-Westminster Community Hockey Game at Cushing Academy's Iorio Arena. Gusek, who lives in Rutland and teaches at John R. Briggs Elementary School in Ashburnham, has been diagnosed with a type of cancer called carcinoid, which doctors say requires treatment -- known as Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy -- that's only available in Germany.

    In the years following the financial investigation of the Stevens Memorial Library, which led to the resignation of the former library director who allegedly stole library funds, the library has taken measures to make sure it never happens again. Cheryl Paul-Bradley was indicted last week in Worcester County Superior Court on charges of stealing more than $50,000 in library funds between 2010 and 2014 after a joint investigation by the Office of the Inspector General and a state police detective assigned to the DA's office.

A Worcester County grand jury returned indictments charging her with two counts of forgery, two counts of uttering and three counts of fraud by a municipal official at Worcester County Superior Court, said Paul Jarvey, a spokesman for Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. The alleged offenses took place between March 2010 and July 2014.
