Two-alarm brush fires were reported in Ashburnham and Oxford Saturday afternoon, while other brush fires were reported in Barre and Sturbridge.

    At 10 a.m. June 6 on the steps of Town Hall, officials will open a time capsule that has been sitting in its vault since 1915. The time capsule was the brainchild of Ashburnham native George Hoffman and his friend, Philadelphia businessman Louis Eisenlohr, who, in 1915, sent invitations for the 2015 event to business contacts from Massachusetts and Philadelphia, according to the town's history.

    Twenty-five years ago, April 6, 1990, it was reported in The Gardner News that the Ashburnham-Westminster School District asked for an override because of a 12 percent budget increase. It seems to me that every year there is a budget shortfall and instantly, teacher positions are placed on the chopping block.
