    A cedar seedling found years ago growing in the shade of a pine tree in neighboring Oglethorpe County has grown up to become Athens' Community Christmas tree. Now 25 feet tall and almost that wide at its base, the Eastern red cedar was plucked Monday morning by an Athens-Clarke County government landscaping crew from the wide-open Arnoldsville front yard where it had been growing unimpeded for the past couple of decades.

    An Athens-Clarke policeman was summoned to a location on Broad Street on Tuesday to speak with a woman who claimed she did "slave labor" on a farm near Arnoldsville. The woman explained she moved to Georgia about six months ago from Pennsylvania for a job, which did not work out, so she took a job on a farm.
