    On the heels of last week's completion of all light rail track installation for the Foothill Gold Line from Pasadena to Azusa, the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority announced this week that the agency has achieved another major milestone for the project - completion of all 14 at-grade crossings for the 11.5-mile light rail extension. Work began on the grade crossings in February 2013, and required long-term closures of each street.

    An attorney who once represented the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Steve Garvey, but now finds himself the defendant in a lawsuit by an ex-girlfriend who alleges he physically abused her -- in places including restaurants in Arcadia and Monrovia -- will have an extra month before facing trial in the woman's case, a judge ruled today. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos said that although attorneys for Neil Papiano and his conservators had not provided sufficient grounds to support their claim for a delay, a one-month postponement rather than the six months they sought was reasonable.

    A 49-year-old man died when he came off his bike and was struck by a vehicle on the Foothill Freeway early Tgursday, Aug. 14. Manuel Alvarez died at the scene of the crash, reported about 4:15 a.m. on the eastbound side, west of North Baldwin Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
