A hearing was held Friday, February 16, in Hillsboro to determine custody of the herd, but authorities continue to look into ownership issues surrounding the more than 350 longhorns and crossbreeds. Liens had reportedly been placed on some of the cattle.

    The Hill County Sheriff's Office seized a herd of longhorn and crossbreed cattle at a ranch near Aquilla Friday, February 9. According to Chief Deputy Rick White, the sheriff's office received pictures Wednesday, February 7, of several dead longhorns in a pasture near County Line Road and Farm Road 933 south of Aquilla. Authorities secured a search warrant for the property from Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Shane Brassell Thursday, February 8. The sheriff's office coordinated with the Humane Society of North Texas and local cowboys to begin retrieving the cattle at 8 a.m. Friday.
