    Lorenzo Brown, a top administrator at Florida Hospital Kissimmee, will become the new CEO at Florida Hospital DeLand starting May 1, the hospital's parent company, Adventist Health System, announced Monday. Brown, who has worked with the Adventist Health System for longer than a decade, will replace Tim Cook, who will move into the role of senior vice president for both Florida Hospital Apopka and Florida Hospital Winter Garden.

    An Orange City woman and her passenger were killed after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a pickup, troopers said. Diana Gilboy, 43, and Sarah Post, 34, of Sanford, succumbed to their injuries at Florida Hospital Apopka where they were taken following the Sunday morning crash, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    In the sweltering July heat, a dozen or so fishermen deploy across Lake George on weekdays, working to control an exploding population of gizzard shad.The fish - which aren't popular food for people or wildlife once they're grown - have rapidly expanded in the lake, increasing nutrients in the water and increasing competition for recreational fish like bream and catfish. By paying a group of fishermen to remove the fish, the St. Johns River Water Management District aims to restore the natural ecological balance in the lake and remove nutrients that can contribute to harmful algal blooms.

    In his new role, Glass will be responsible for general accounting and finance functions of the 156-bed DeLand hospital, including accounts payable, payroll and financial statement preparation.  Glass, an Apopka resident, has been with Adventist Health System for six years and was most recently an internal audit manager.  “Kyle is passionate about serving others. He has spent time teaching budget classes, preparing tax returns for low-income families and is an active member of the Big Brother program,” stated Nigel Hinds, Florida Hospital DeLand chief financial officer, in a news release.
