Prior to receiving funding from Post 16, the club provided Raise-a-Reader packets to parents who had babies born in May and October.

    Any veteran on the Kenai Peninsula can get free transportation to the VA medical clinic in Kenai or outpatient clinic in Homer, as well as any VA-authorized vendors, like pharmacies, hospitals and medical specialists. Forest Powell, with the Alaska Office of Veterans Affairs, says it even counts for trips to Anchorage, if the local VA refers a vet to a doctor in the city.

    Shayne Clinton Baringer, co-owner of the Anchor Point construction company Twin Peaks Construction, was found dead in an Anchorage hotel last week, and police are seeking information on an unidentified woman they believe to be an essential witness in the case. Anchorage Police released photos of a woman taken from video , saying the unidentified woman may have information regarding Baringer's activities on the day of his passing that would aid in their investigation.

Bill Walker giving an alternative name to the federal holiday on which it began. At remarks opening the First Alaskans Institute Elders and Youth Conference, Berkowitz signed a local proclamation declaring the second Monday in October - on which Columbus Day is traditionally celebrated -- as Indigenous Peoples Day.
