  1. Mayor Sidhu: Anaheim Open For Business!A Also: Emergency Winter Shelter-paloozaRead the original story w/Photo

21 hrs ago | Orange Juice

It was clear that new Mayor Harry Sidhu intended that to be the memorable catch-phrase of his maiden speech : ANAHEIM IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS!A He repeated the slogan twice, at the beginning and near the middle of the speech, setting down his prepared text, grinning, and stretching his arms wide, as though inviting the advances of a lover.

Monday Dec 3 | Orange Juice

Elections come and go, but the bipartisan kleptocratic machine running this county, that gets up out of bed every morning with new ideas of how to pick your pocket and keep their spigots flowing, NEVER SLEEPS. Case in point: Let's check in on the Poseidon desal boondoggle, which we never quite manage to kill.

Monday Dec 3 | Orange Juice

I recently heard an early description of the stunning defeat of the OC GOP in a radio interview conducted by an Irvine professor, interviewing one of the most well-known OC-born journalists: "Orange County, California, was the political starting point for Nixon, for the Barry Goldwater presidential campaign, and for Reagan-as Republican as any place in America. But starting in January, not a single Republican will represent Orange County in the House.

Well, maybe the counts in our neighboring counties aren't done , but there's only one close race crossing county lines left where we might expect more votes - Fullerton High School District 1 - and we're giving up on it. By Thursday, we were down to covering just 14 close races, plus the local vote for Governor and the Measure L races, so we'll start with the winners from those: : Sidhu beats Aitken by 478, 0.6%.

  6. Letter to Anaheim Democrats; and Meeting Today (Saturday) with Jose and LorettaRead the original story

Saturday Dec 1 | Orange Juice

Note: One of my duties as Vice-President of the Anaheim Democratic Club is writing the monthly newsletter, in which I have to be careful to not say anything bad about an "endorsed Democrat" or anything nice about any Republican! Well anyway, our monthly meetings are the first Saturday of each month - including tomorrow! - from 12:15 to 1:45 at West Anaheim's Haskett Branch Library , and tomorrow's meeting will be a good one! Except not the one I was hoping for: I wanted both Jose Moreno and Jordan Brandman - our two Democrat Councilmen who just won in twin landslides - as different as their politics are, I thought it would be a really interesting conversation, to see if they could agree on anything.

A few days ago - a couple days after I wrote my piece announcing Loretta Sanchez' run for third-district Supervisor - Loretta called me. I hadn't spoken to her in a couple of years, had lost her number, and didn't even know that she had moved up to "Old Town" Orange several years ago.

Thursday Nov 22 | Orange Juice

Ashleigh Aitken today cut her deficit against Harry Sidhu from 890 to 748, with 5,935 more ballots counted. On its face, that too-small from that many ballots not a good sign - but what matters is the ballots left uncounted likely challenged provisionals waiting for their owners to claim them.

  10. Eight Years of Mayor Tait - Vern's TributeRead the original story

Wednesday Nov 21 | Orange Juice

Good evening council, meeting junkies, TV land, I'm Vern Nelson, from Anna Drive, Los Amigos, and Anaheim Voters Against Kleptocracy, and I come not to bury Mayor Tom Tait, nor to flatter him, but to speak the truth about his eight years as Mayor, and in the third person as though he weren't here. And I want you all to look at what you've done to him over these years It's a transformation reminiscent of our last three presidents, presidents who led us through wars and recessions! The bitter hatred against Tom over these years was dwarfed only by the great affection most of Anaheim has for hima and this hatred was based on a feeling of BETRAYAL, betrayal felt by the special interests who are used to running this town.

  13. Loretta Sanchez in for Spitzer's old Supervisor Seat.Read the original story

Tuesday Nov 20 | Orange Juice

Just thought we'd break the news before some other bastard blog did: Former longtime Democratic central county Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is indeed, as rumors suggested, "throwing in her hat" for the special election early next year, to take Todd Spitzer's place as Third District Supervisor. We Democrats were excited to have a tough progressive candidate, with money, for this race - Andy Thorburn who'd come in second to Gil Cisneros in the CA-39 primary.

  14. Lou Correa and Tom Daly support Trump deportations and OC cooperation with ICERead the original story w/Photo

Tuesday Nov 20 | Orange Juice

It's counter-intuitive I know, given what Congressman Lou Correa and Assemblyman Tom Daly say in public, given the fact that they're Democrats, and given the fact that they both represent the most Democratic AND Latino district in this blue county, but the fact remains - these two politicians have done their best to further Orange County's co-operation with Trump's Immigration & Customs Enforcement, and the county's defiance of the Sanctuary State Law , otherwise known as the California Values Act, SB 54. Both "Democrat" politicians endorsed corrupt Sheriff Sandra Hutchens ' hand-picked Republican replacement Don Barnes over a completely competent and decent Democrat, Duke Nguyen.

    Nov 6, 2018 | Orange Juice

Locally there are still very few precincts reporting from the OC races we care about; but there are a few surprises - it looks like Todd may be beating Tony for DA; Anaheim looks sadly like at least TWO, maybe three, kleptos are going to win - Jose's doing great against Mitch, but Trevor and Jordan and both way ahead, and it looks like Harry Sidhu may beat the rest of the field unless Ashleigh really catches up - gross! In HB's Ocean View School District, it at least looks like controversial racist candidate Gracey may not make it! In Costa Mesa so far, Democrat Katrina Foley and her Democratic team are totally kicking ass.
