    Amsterdam city leaders have called in excavation crews to determine the source of a sewage leak discovered near the east bank of the North Chuctanunda Creek on Forest Avenue -- ending up in the Mohawk River. The city's engineer says crews were brought in to take debris and rocks from the area, and it was found that the waste water was coming from around the base of an old dam.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation says the latest spill in the city of Amsterdam occurred when a pipe broke Monday morning, sending sewage into an adjacent creek that flows into the river 30 miles northwest of Albany.
