    A fire Saturday heavily damaged the Soul Town nightclub along old Route 66 in Amarillo, Texas, and the longtime owner is assessing how to rebuild it. Jimmy Dunn, 77, owns Soul Town, which before was the Crystal Pistol strip club, at 907 E. Amarillo Blvd., aka Route 66. At 6:38 a.m. Saturday, Amarillo firefighters responded to the club and found heavy smoke billowing from the attic.

Center City of Amarillo is hosting three public hearings about the idea and will send the application before the June deadline.

    A suspected electrical fire Tuesday destroyed much of the Royal Inn, one of the original Route 66 businesses in Wildorado, Texas, reported the Amarillo Globe-News. The first call came into Oldham County Sheriff's Office at 9:48 a.m. and the fire was not under control until 2 p.m. Firefighters continued to douse hotspots at the motel at 5:30 p.m. "Both wings of the motel were on fire, and we managed to save about 10 to 12 rooms, but the rest were pretty heavily damaged," Potter County Fire Chief Richard Lake said.

"We've been thinking that we really need to appreciate the Amarillo Police Department for all that they do around Amarillo and for 6th Street," said Ken Spencer, the President of the 6th Street Merchants Association.
