  19. Partnership Facilitates Implementation of Victim Notification SystemRead the original story

    Saturday Jul 12 | PRWeb

    - Many crime victims across the United States haven't heard of Digital Solutions Inc. and they may never need to know exactly how a jail management system operates. They should, however, be familiar with what is called a victim notification system - a system that allows them to call and receive immediate information on incarcerated offenders that have previously harmed them. Thanks to a partnership between Appriss Inc. (the nation's leader in victim notification systems) and Digital Solutions Inc. (the leader in jail management software) many citizens may soon have this technology at their fingertips as well. {InsertImage} VINE, Victim Information and Notification Everyday, is a free service that allows crime victims and other concerned citizens to call a toll-free number or log onto a secure Web portal to receive real-time information about the custody status of offenders held in jail or prison. They can also register to be notified by phone, e-mail, pager, or TTD/TTY device when an offender is released, transferred, or escapes. VINE is being used in more than 2,300 criminal justice agencies in 44 states and the District of Columbia. To date, more than 75 percent of the nation's local jail offenders are being monitored through VINE. The problem lies in the other 25 percent of criminals that are not currently being monitored through a victim notification system. VINE must be able to communicate with a site's jail booking system in order to alert victims of current information. Many smaller facilities throughout the United States that manage fewer than 100 beds have never had the need for a jail management system or do not have the resources to purchase such capabilities. In order to supplement these smaller sites with the VINE program, Appriss needed a small-scale, web-based platform from which to pull the necessary information. VINE was the driving force behind the creation of Digital Solution's OMS Lite - a fully capable, yet scaled down version of their comprehensive Offender Management System. OMS Lite provides a simple hosted solution over the web, which is easy to implement and very cost effective. Using OMS Lite to transfer information to the VINE system means that it can be implemented at a number of sites that otherwise would not be able to offer the service. With the state's purchase of VINE for their corrections facilities, Appriss implements the OMS Lite system free of charge with the VINE program at these smaller sites. There is no need for a bulky software set-up - only a thin web browser at the client site with internet access. Because of OMS Lite web capability, Appriss can enable multiple sites in one region to go live with VINE and OMS Lite all at once. "Receiving accurate information quickly and easily is crucial to keeping victims and their families safe. Thankfully we were able to provide a simplified cost effective system that fit the needs of Appriss and all of the smaller facilities they service. I am pleased that many more locations will be able to take advantage of the VINE product. We are very supportive of the service Appriss provides to our nation's victims and will do whatever it takes to make sure that as many sites as possible can receive this outstanding service ," says Digital Solutions / Inmate Telephone Inc. President and CEO, Anthony Bambocci. The system saves taxpayer money and allows corrections staff members to focus on their core responsibilities. The VINE system utilizes the Appriss Data Network - the nation's largest criminal justice information database, centrally stored at the Appriss headquarters in Louisville, KY. Most recently, VINE and OMS Lite have been installed in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Washington. For those interested in learning more about the Offender Management System (OMS), please visit Digital Solutions / Inmate Telephone, Inc. at or contact Mr. Thomas Brence at tbrence @ dsiiti.com or 888.222.3081. About Appriss Appriss provides innovative technology solutions that help thousands of local, state, and Federal government agencies serve and protect their citizens. Other innovative services includes VINE Courts, which notifies individuals about their court case event status; VINE Protective Order, which alerts individuals when a protective order is served; JusticeXchange , the leading solution for connecting criminal justice agencies nationwide; and SONAR, a comprehensive sex offender management solution. About Digital Solutions / Inmate Telephone, Inc. Established in 1984 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Digital Solutions Incorporated (DSI) is a privately-held technology company that specializes in automating corrections agencies. Its sister company, Inmate Telephone Incorporated (ITI), was founded in 1994 to create and maintain a state of the art inmate phone system. More than twenty years of successful implementations in over four hundred agencies has enabled DSI / ITI to become the leading provider of software solutions to the corrections industry. The company attributes much of their success to the practice of involving users in the design phases of the application development process - input that is critical in enabling the company to continually improve while building a sense of ownership among the communities they serve.
