Wab. Co. Cattlemen Hold Banquet
The Wabaunsee County Cattlemen's Association held their 67th an-nual banquet Monday evening in the Mission Valley High School Commons Area. Members and friends of the organization from Wa-baunsee County, and surrounding areas, attended the event as they observed the accomplishments and challenges of the cattle industry. WCCA Director Derek Schrader served as the evening's master of ceremonies and welcomed those in attendance. Following a smoked brisket dinner served by Bobby D's, Lake Wabaunsee, Research and Extension Agent Matt Pfeifer shared an an-nual update from his office. Matt's report was followed by information from Kansas Livestock Association Senior Vice President Mike Beam. Beam shared that the KLA has been busy working with legislators in a variety of issues ranging from the Holcomb Power Plant to immigration issues. The evening's entertainment was provide by Cowboy Poet/Humorist Jack "Trey" Allen. The 2008 WCCA scholarship was awarded to Dena Mayer, Alta Vista. Mayer is a junior at Kansas State University majoring in ag economics.
