    Hundreds of children in Pamlico County again will have toys for Christmas thanks to a pair of Santa helper groups - Toys for Pamlico Kids and the Oriental Detachment of the Marine Corps League. The Toys for Pamlico Kids, sponsored by Camps Seafarer and Sea Gull and the Pamlico County Chamber of Commerce, will collect donated toys through Monday and distribute them at the Department of Social Services in Alliance on Dec. 16 and 18. The Marine group will collect its new, unwrapped toys Dec. 18 and also distribute through DSS.

    "Here we go," said Owen Andrews, opening the last of three sessions last week that formally launched the Craven 100 Alliance , which is the new public-private economic development alliance for Craven County. "I'm looking for great things to come from our efforts," he said to the alliance's board, which now has 19 of its 21 members named by the participating organizations, including the Committee of 100, Craven County, and the cities of Havelock and New Bern.

    Ed Riggs Jr., the mayor of Alliance for the past five years, is the unofficial winner of the Pamlico County District 3 commissioner seat by 49 votes over Democratic challenger John Buck of Stonewall. Three Democratic incumbent commissioners in Tuesday's general election were unopposed: at-large candidates Ann Holton and Chairman Paul Delamar III, along with District 4 Commissioner Carl Ollison.
