    Natso Inc., the national association representing the travel plaza and truck stop industry, has launched a new business venture known as the Alternative Fuels Council - NatsoAltFuels.com - to help fuel retailers leverage the resources necessary to learn about and incorporate alternative fuels into their supply offerings. The Alternative Fuels Council will work with members of the truck stop and travel plaza community and other fuel retailers to navigate the litany of state and federal fuel regulations, and to utilize available government incentives for alternative fuels, including the Renewable Fuel Standard.

    Harris Saunders Jr., the former head of Saunders Leasing System and picked to be the first chairman of the Truck Renting and Leasing Association in 1978, died May 6. He was 93. A native of Birmingham, Ala., Saunders earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and spent his entire business career working in the family's truck leasing business. The company traces its roots to the birth of the car and truck rental and leasing industry in 1916.

    Trucks traveling Virginia's roads could get about 10,000 pounds heavier if legislation gets the OK from the General Assembly. Virginia would be able to take part in a potential federal pilot program allowing for six-axle, 91,000-pound trucks.
