    There has been talk about the need for an East-West interstate highway through Central Louisiana for decades, and a bill filed in Congress recently is at least a small first step toward making that corridor a reality. U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham of Louisiana is one of the sponsors of the federal legislation designed to create Interstate 14 along the route of existing State Highways 8 and 28 and U.S. Highway 84. That course could change, obviously, as plans for the road progress.

"Une Place a la Table: Louisiana Artists Pay Tribute to the Council for the Development of the French in Louisiana " opened at the Alexandria Museum of Art Friday, July 6. To commemorate CODOFIL's 50th birthday, 50 Louisiana artists and craftsmen have produced work for the exhibit. The exhibit is sponsored by the Louisiana Crafts Guild and will be on exhibit in Alexandria through August.

    Emotions were raw Monday night as the special session collapsed after the the Legislature was unable to raise major revenue to fund the state's budget priorities. In the final minutes of the session, an attempt to reconsider a bill that would have increased revenue by $504 million was blocked by Rep. Alan Seabaugh, R-Shreveport, who acknowledged that he stayed at the microphone to use up the remaining time allotted for the session.

The fee is $100 for the sessions on the Natchitoches campus and $60 for the sessions on the Alexandria, Shreveport and Leesville/Fort Polk campuses. Those attending the sessions on the Alexandria, Shreveport and Leesville/Fort Polk campuses should be planning to take all classes on that campus.
