    The Town Talk of Alexandria reported that police said 27-year-old Ahmond Da'Shawn Mason was arrested in Alexandria after officers got information from what they called "a concerned citizen." Mason is being held on a charge of second-degree murder in the Rapides Parish jail.

    Federal authorities say a leader and a member of a prison-based "whites only" gang have pleaded guilty in Alexandria, Louisiana, to being accessories after the fact in a 2016 slaying. A U.S. Justice Department news release says 38-year-old Aryan Circle leader, David Wayne Williams of Sulphur, Louisiana, pleaded guilty Tuesday; Forty-three-year-old Leland Hamm of Tulsa, Oklahoma, pleaded guilty Wednesday.

    The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office says 20-year-old Miguel Glorioso, of Alexandria, and 19-year-old Jamie Lee Coutee, of Pineville, were arrested after a courthouse employee investigating a report of a commotion in the stairwell found the couple having sex. The couple fled but an employee identified the man as an inmate trusty assigned to a cleaning detail at the courthouse.

According to witnesses, a commotion was heard in a fifth-floor stairwell at the courthouse and when an employee went to investigate, they observed a man and a woman having sex.

    Louisiana State University is again raising student fees at its main campus by 5 percent, a price hike approved Friday that drew worries the consistent, annual increases could price some students out of school or at least chase them elsewhere. Campus leaders said the $282 per-semester fee hike for full-time students - and the more than $14 million raised by it - was needed for pay raises and other expenses to keep pace with peer institutions and make up for nearly a decade of state financing cuts.
