If the sides agree on a new four-year deal, it could end more than two years of acrimonious negotiations between 43 area officiating boards in Syracuse, Watertown and Utica and the section, which represents more than 100 school districts in an area stretching roughly from Cortland to Alexandria Bay and Auburn to Little Falls.

Brian Hartman of Alexandria Bay eclipsed the 2009 state record walleye by more than 1.5 pounds when he caught an 18-pound, 2-ounce walleye from the St. Lawrence River on May 5 using a swimbait.

An automated weather station in Philadelphia, a Jefferson County town about 20 miles southeast of Alexandria Bay, recorded 34 below zero about 6 a.m. As of noon, the National Weather Service's official list of high and low temperatures says that the coldest place was Hibbing/Chisholm, Minnesota, at 32 below.
