Clarke, 38, both of 35033 Eddy Road, Lot 60, Theresa, were each charged by state police with first-degree scheme to defraud Friday in connection with an incident at 2:51 p.m. Nov. 16 at the North Country Store, 32672 Route 11. Police said the suspects issued two bad checks, totaling $630, to the store. They said suspects are expected to face additional charges for issuing bad checks at Mercer's grocery store, 32 E Church St., Adams, and Big M Supermarket, 45560 Route 12, Alexandria Bay.

    An Alexandria Bay man and former Ogdensburg bar owner was placed on interim probation Monday for illegally entering two Ogdensburg homes earlier this year. John C. Tulip, 59, of 24126 Route 26, Suite 2, was placed on one year of interim probation in St. Lawrence County Court after his Aug. 25 guilty plea to two counts of the reduced charge of second-degree attempted burglary, a violent felony, in a plea deal with the district attorney's office.

    A Canadian man was sentenced Monday to three years in federal prison for trying to sneak an undocumented alien into the United States by hiding the person in the cab of his tractor-trailer. Ergys Metashi, 34, an Albanian citizen who is a legal resident of Ontario, Canada, was also ordered in U.S. District Court, Syracuse, to undergo three additional years of supervision upon his release from prison after being found guilty at trial in July of bringing an alien into the United States for the purpose of financial gain.

According to a plea agreement filed with the court, Mr. Nelson admitted he used his computer and the Internet to view, download and trade images and videos of child pornography for a period of about 10 years.
