    Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced today that the state will pay for the remaining $3 million needed to construct a waterline in the town of Orleans. Since the 1980s, a DOT salt barn on Route 12 in Fishers Landing has caused widespread water contamination that has affected the private wells of around 50 residents.

    Late last summer, a corporation was formed by a small group of members of the Point Vivian Park Association in an effort to gain nonprofit organization status and embark on a river community fundraising effort to preserve the two historic buildings within the park, about 3 miles southwest of Alexandria Bay off state Route 12. The mission of the Point Vivian Preservation Corp. is to promote and raise funds for the rehabilitation of two historic structures: the dock house, built around the turn of the 20th century, and the pavilion, built in 1915. “The buildings are river landmarks,” Trude Fitelson, a preservation expert who is also a board member of the newly formed organization, said in a news release.

Ronald G. Thomson, the treasurer for the chamber, said that the chamber revoked the company's invitation because they felt it would take away business from Nav's Popcorn, a new downtown business and member of the chamber.
