    After reading the article about a possible tax increase in the city and the reasons why, I think the City Council should do their retreat thing and mull over ways to help improve the value of older neighborhoods in Aiken that have a big “investor” presence of properties that drag down and keep values low. The difference between a $60,000 and $100,000 home can simply be the perception of its location and properties nearby that are well below the curb appeal of the average property in the area.

    Though the number of absentee ballots cast so far in Aiken County is slightly less than usual, the director of the Aiken County's Registration and Elections Office anticipates the county will have more than 15,000 residents vote absentee, higher than in 2012. So far, 4,600 people have voted absentee in-person, with 3,298 voting absentee by mail, fax or email, according to Executive Director Cynthia Holland.
