The quest to find new space for offices and town meetings began early in 2014 when council received correspondence from its landlord stating that the rent for the borough's current location was going to double in 2015, from its previous $695 per month to about $1,400 per month.

    Abbottstown council has given conditional approval for the construction of a cell tower within the town, pending final review of all documents by the borough's solicitor. Solicitor Guy Beneventano said he had reviewed the agreement between the borough and CIG Towers and asked that the council give conditional approval based upon his final review.

    A 17-year-old Abbottstown girl was injured when the 2007 Mazda she was driving ran off the road and struck a tree and embankment on Brough Road, Berwick Township, at 3:50 p.m. Dec. 2, state police in Gettysburg reported. The teen, who state police did not identify, was transported to York Hospital by New Oxford ambulance with moderate injuries, police said.

    At Thursday night's meeting council said the tax rate will stay at its current 1.4156 mills, which means that a property assessed at $200,000 will continue to pay approximately $283 in municipal taxes. Council also approved re-advertising the proposed 2015 budget with the inclusion of a line-item of $300,000 that could be used for possible relocation of the borough offices.

    Abbottstown officials have been receiving many complaints from residents recently about dogs running loose within the borough, Mayor Craig Peterson said. Several residents have contacted him multiple times about their neighbors who repeatedly have left their dogs "roam at large" throughout the community, Peterson said.
