TransCanada sells power from US$500M Arizona plant, seals new pipeline deal
- TransCanada Corporation (TSX:TRP) has announced a 20-year sale of the electricity from its planned US$500-million Coolidge generating station southeast of Phoenix, Ariz. In a separate announcement Monday, TransCanada presented an agreement with Enterprise Products Partners LP and Quicksilver Gas Services on the proposed Pathfinder pipeline. Enterprise and Quicksilver are to acquire up to a 50 per cent stake in the project and commit to ship 500 million cubic feet per day on a 10-year term through the line from the U.S. Rockies to the Midwest. The Coolidge deal, meanwhile, involves a 575-megawatt plant, to be online in three years. It will provide power to Phoenix-based utility Salt River Project and will receive natural gas from both the El Paso Natural Gas and Transwestern pipelines, connecting to a new Salt River Project high-voltage transmission line. The proposed Pathfinder project is an 800-kilometre, 42-inch-diameter pipeline to transport natural gas from Wamsutter, Wyo., through Montana and North Dakota to the Northern Border Pipeline Co. system for delivery into the Ventura and Chicago area markets. The initial capacity is 1.2 billion cubic feet per day, with an ultimate capacity of two billion cubic feet per day.
