The Battle of Britain was the Second World War air conflict fought in full view of the British public below between the Luftwaffe and the RAF during the summer and autumn of 1940.

Designed by Reginald J Mitchell, the Supermarine Spitfire is one of the best loved and widely recognised British aircraft of all time. Earl Bathurst, the show's chairman said: "Cirencester Park was the base for two military hospitals during World War II and we thought it fitting to be able to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the war in some way.

Six Rolls Royce Merlin engines will appear in unison when the Avro Lancaster, Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane take to the air to wow audiences this summer, at the show taking place on Saturday, June 6 It will be the first time the Lancaster has appeared at the airshow and marks a welcome return to the former RAF Pershore for the legendary bomber, Pathfinder variants of which used the site operationally during World War II.

Spitfires were manufactured in the Castle Bromwich ward of the City from 1940 to 1945 and parts for the Hurricane were made in the city.
