COUNTRY and western music has never been to my taste, but when you have a partner who has loved it since she was young you can't pass up the chance to take her to the Country Superstars Experience, can you? So we joined a disappointing number of people at the Wyvern on Wednesday for a tribute to Patsy Cline, Billie Jo Spears, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, John Denver and, of course, the greatest of them all, Dolly Parton. I've always had a soft spot for Dolly because of the quips she makes about herself but there's no way I would have paid A 120 to see her in concert back in the summer when she toured the UK.

Seeing as how it's an eight-plus-hour, 545-mile drive from Nashville to Raleigh, NC, you better leave now if you wanna make it to tomorrow's Farm Aid show at the City of Oaks' Walnut Creek Amphitheatre, which - in addition to the inevitable Willie Nelson performance - will feature sets from Neil Young, Jack White, John Mellencamp, Jamey Johnson, Carlene Carter, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dave Matthews and others.
