'Comedy Bang Bang' Snares the National, Future Islands, and More for New Season

Scott Aukerman is considered somewhat of an esoteric comedy genius who also has stellar musical taste. As the creator of the IFC show Comedy Bang Bang , Aukerman gets the opportunity to book bands that other more conservative talkshows might shy away from, hence the promising slate of musical talent planned for the program's recently announced fourth season: the National , Letterman favorites Future Islands , the Flaming Lips, "Weird Al" Yankovic, the Lonely Island, and the Vandals are all set to drop by Comedy Bang Bang this fall, as Pitchfork notes.

Wilbers: Avoid 'Weird Al' Yankovic's 29 errors featured in 'Word Crimes'

Why would anyone watch a music video that begins, "Everybodyshutup," and concludes by telling people who make 29 common language errors that not only are they "a lost cause" but they should "go back to preschool," get "out of the gene pool" and try their best "to not drool"? Although I'm not fond of ridicule as a method of instruction, I found this parody of Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" irresistible. The music is appealing, Jarrett Heather's "kinetic typography" is delightfully rendered and the explanations of how to correct the errors are grammatically sound.

When Jim "Kimo" West is not busy shredding lead guitar for "Weird Al" Yankovic you may find him tinkering on a new track for an independent musician in his home sound studio in Los Angeles, recreating a film score or playing slack-key guitar in his spiritual home of Hana, Hawai'i. All in all, if anything can be said about Jim, then it is that he is a man that wears many hats.
