State Duma Approves Bill Over Media Clampdown

As an editor's note, the following closing paragraph of this article is not absolutely accurate. False information is false information. It is not a matter of warm feelings towards a particular article: "Even without the libel amendment, “any word that a governor or mayor doesn’t like is considered by courts to be false information, and the paper is simply closed,” Fedotov said." Why U.S. Desires Georgia

There are a list of reasons for U.S. interests in Georgia's entrance into NATO. But, first hand, there are furthermore reasons for U.S. military and political interests in Georgia as a former Soviet Republic. Primarily, the United States can only provide itself with half of the oil it uses per day: 10 mill/bpd, as it needs for consumption a minimum of 20 mill/bpd. Georgia is "the shortest route between the [oil reserves] of the Caspian Sea and Turkey." What this means is that "An international consortium of oil companies tied to America, including BP and Chevron, profit from the Caspian Sea/Turkey trade route providing the United States with energy resource: resources to a country who has no energy. According to Department of Defense Officials, another reason Georgia is greatly desired to join NATO is its proximity to Russia. U.S. military troop occupations number approximately 30,000 troops as of 2007. The Department of Defense attempted to justify this number on account of battling Chechen terrorists. However, Russia is notorious for solving Chechen crime. Regardless, Pentagon stiffly rebuked Russia for having a mere 5,000 troop presence in the territory for anti-rebel aid. According to Robert Ware, for these instances, Georgia is an important strategic outpost for the U.S. because it forms a key link in a chain of U.S. military bases that nows encircle Russia. However vehemently Russia has pursued to counter terrorism, the United States would like to suggest otherwise. The war with Chechnya stands as clear evidence against terrorism, followed by humanitarian aid to the region by President Vladimir Putin who did not wish to see Chechnya disarrayed. It seems more feasible that Russia handle insurgents in Georgia through a Russian/Georgian alliance than allow the United States to steal Georgia from under its vulnerability.

Departmetn of Defense Missile Defense Press Release 2008

Department of Missile Defense Press Release : 2008 According to the 2008 Missile Defense Agency, Pentagon Press Release, Washington does not intend to stop its Anti-Ballistic Missile Defense System for its European Allies at the helms of Poland and Czech. The next frontier, far begun by the United States, is space. The Missile Defense Agency is pursuing the Space Tracking and Surveillance System program as a space-based sensor component of the Ballistic Missile Defense System. The program uses sensors capable of detecting visible infrared light. The Space Tracking and Surveillance System will become part of a constellation of land, sea, air, and space based Ballistic Missile Defense System sensors. The Space Tracking and Surveillance System Demonstration Program will demonstrate the key functions of a space based sensor, passing missile tracking data to missile defense interceptors. A minimum of two satellites will be launched on a single Delta II launch vehicle in 2008. The Space Tracking and Surveillance System will perform on-orbiting of sensor performance against ground targets, airborne targets, and short and long range ballistic missile targets. ABMD sensory capabilities are not the only advanced technologies being pursued in 2008 within the new frontier. However important missile detection and WMD is, kill vehicle methodologies have advanced and continue to advance in both Pentagon’s and NGO sectors. Pursuant to satellite missile detection is space kill vehicle technologies to accompany land, sea, and air defense mechanisms. The most prominent kill vehicle for ABMD interception is LASER defense. According to the Missile Defense Press Release: 2008: “Phased Array Concepts, Fast Beam Steering Concepts, Laser Target Acquisitions” from space satellites are ways in which the United States can counter ABM that might be posed as threats from any nation or country. This would accompany the Aegis missile defense systems and George Bush’s plans for an ABMDS in Poland and Czech, along with alternative missile defense capabilities. With these precautionary ramifications, the United States will lead the world in WMD. According to the Pentagon, “All wavelengths will be considered.” By Stephany Casey McDowell; U.S.A.

Putin and Berlusconi seen talking energy, Alitalia

“We'll talk about relations between the European Union and the Russian Federation and the contrasts and differences with the West”

By Francesca Piscioneri

PORTO ROTONDO, Sardinia (Reuters) - Russia's Vladimir Putin visited Italian prime minister-elect Silvio Berlusconi at his luxury villa in Sardinia on Thursday for a meeting likely to touch on energy and Alitalia.

The Russian president, who quits on May 7 to become prime minister under his protege Dimitry Medvedev, was the first foreign leader to meet Berlusconi after the media mogul won the election on Sunday and Monday for a third term as premier.

"Putin's visit underlines the importance of our relationship, which has never been interrupted; a very important rapport, if you consider that 30 percent of the gas and oil we import is Russian," Berlusconi said ahead of their meeting. Read more
