"Goodnight Irene" sung by The Weavers topped the charts on this day in 1950 but it was originally recorded in 1932 by blues musician Huddie 'Lead Belly' Ledbetter, whose performance of the song got him released from jail after being charged with attempted murder.

Work O' The Weavers will perform at the Uptown Coffeehouse, located in the Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture at 4450 Fieldston Road, at 5 p.m. The group performs ballads, works songs, hymns, lullabies and traditional folk songs from around the world that the Weavers made famous.
