In terms of both quantity and quality, George Harrison was doomed to finish a distant third to his outrageously gifted Fab-mates in the songwriter sweepstakes , but the fact remains that he did develop a distinctive sound in his own right, and if his solo output was wildly inconsistent, his best work was truly luminous.
