A chat with the director of 'The Last Five Years'

Nish Tham, music director for Pan Productions' staging of Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years, says directing musical theatre productions is hard but satisfying work. Nish Tham is no stranger to musical theatre, having been involved in several productions as music director, including Pan Productions' staging of Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along in May. But what's different this time around with the musical direction in Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years is that she gets to work with the exact number of musicians the musical is written for.

Theatre review: Into the Woods features magical performances but goes on too long

Neptune Theatre gives Nova Scotians a chance to see a musical that's been a hit for almost 30 years and played Broadway, the West End and virtually everywhere but this province only once before at the Atlantic Theatre Festival. For all its merits - and there are many in this production of Into the Woods - the show is too long and it ends on a dark note with a post-apocalyptic family reordering that is realistic but after the high of last season's closer, Mary Poppins, is not uplifting.
