Michael Stipe Attacks Militaristic America Post-9/11 In Anniversary Essay

Former Rem frontman Michael Stipe marked the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on Thursday by offering up his 'state of the America' thoughts in an essay published by The Guardian newspaper. Recalling the atrocities in New York, which took place just blocks from where he lived, the singer admits he's far from impressed with the efforts to honour those who lost their lives 13 years ago, insisting the building of the Freedom Tower on the Ground Zero site where the Twin Towers once stood is more about "nationalism" than "patriotism".

On September 9th in Albany, New York, the new, ultimate King Crimson at seven members the largest ensemble in the British band's 46-year history, with three drummers and players from every major phase and decade closed the opening night of its debut U.S. tour with the ultimate King Crimson song: the tortuous thunder and scathing paranoia of "21st Century Schizoid Man," from the group's 1969 debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King . A nightly feature of Crimson shows until the end of their first live era in 1974, "Schizoid Man" was mothballed as founding guitarist Robert Fripp launched subsequent lineups, including the so-called Discipline quartet in the Eighties and the fearsome double-trio configuration of 1994 to 1997.

NYT Editor Fashions Hilarious R.E.M. Riff

The paragraph tag - BRINY HAPPY PEOPLE - hilariously teases the facts that the godfather of Pratt's 11-year-old daughter is R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe and that she and mom often partake in salty Sunday repasts. It's Hall of Fame worthy, so much so that it generated some follow-up discussion on Twitter and article author Julie Satow giving credit where shiny credit is due.
