There's gold in Pullman trilogy
A couple of weeks ago, the children's film The Golden Compass debuted on screens across America, kicking up a bit of a brouhaha among grown-ups. Those who didn't like the film, which was based on the first book in a trilogy by atheist Philip Pullman, worried that it would 'hook children into Pullman's books and a dark, individualistic world where all religion is evil,' as one AP news report stated. On the other hand, among those defending the film was the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which called it 'intelligent and well-crafted entertainment.' Read more
