Dallas troupe takes a crack at rock opera
Dallas' longstanding hub for experimental work, Undermain Theatre, performs the world premiere stage adaptation of Neil Young and Crazy Horse's 2003 album Greendale, a rock opera about corruption and other happenings in a small California town.
How they do it: Undermain's underground space is opened up with all the actors in sight, even when they're sitting offstage, and the band of Deep Ellum musicians -- Kenny Withrow (New Bohemians) on guitar, Alan Emert (Ten Hands, Brave Combo) on drums and Paul Semrad (Course of Empire) on bass -- in the background.
