Review: Kylie Minogue's like a bad Madonna impression

This article is one worn out cliche. We've heard it all before ad naseum.

The stage, lighting, sound, songs, dancing, singing were brilliant. I have also noticed a lot of critics' comparisons to Lady Gaga with Kylie's outfits but what the critics don't seem to realise is that Kylie was wearing these kind of outfits before Gaga came on the scene. I noticed a couple of costumes that were similar to the X Tour and previous tours. Whoever said she has had 2-3 hits, that would be here in America, in the UK she has had many more hits spanning 20 years and 10 albums. Kylie said she wanted to encorporate several themes from past tours and give a kind of greatest hits tour for us. Kylie has also done the odd Madonna song on tour before too. She mixed Vogue with her song called Burning up (not the Madonna one). There was a shower Sequence on stage semi naked. That was reworked from the Showgirl tour I think, pre Cancer diagnosis. Hope fans enjoy the upcoming shows. They kept the massive skull that she rides in on in the show, abstract of Kylie's triumph over death and her love of life on top it all.

I saw the X Tour about 18 months or go I think. It was amazing. Kylie always gets compared to Madonna but she doesn't rip her off. She is a fan of Madonna and does on the odd occasion use a similar outfit as such but she doesn't just copy. None of the outfits in this tour looked anything like something Madonna would wear. Madonna fans always accuse her of copying. I love both artists but I have noticed both sets of fans have a tendency to clash. For healthy competition in my design club one group keeps covering a plexiglass partition with Madonna fashions. We cover our side with Kylie designs and inspirations.(So much Kylie coverage that nobody can see through! lol). I can't wait to hear her new music as I know she has been working with Jake Shears again.

There is some excellent writing going on here. Each sentence is a story. Combined, they create wonderful context surrounding Kylie and her contemporaries.

Don't take my word for it. The post mentions Madonna and Kylie and has been in the Madonna and Kylie forums for 5-6 days. And no slander. Someone call for peace through strong writing?(That's rhetorical).

Dig the Trojans. The USC kind, not the kind found in a Little Red Corvette lol. Best cheerleaders outside of Dallas lol. Cheers.

Maintaining the balance. I love both Madonna and Kylie also. I love both Kylie and Madonna also. Madonna gets top billing in the US, it's a concession agreed upon by the fair and financially minded.

Trivia: Some claim that the song is about Prince protege Sheila E. At the time, Prince had Vanity, Appolonia, Sheena Easton, and Sheila E is his stable. Ready For The World had a woman who once met Lisa Bonet at a Chuck E Cheese party. Ready made a gallant effort to try and get Sheila E into their camp for some sex cred (and some sex). I respect that.

Good writing all around, thanks much. A friend had a little red Corvette at USC. One night as designated driver he drove twenty-seven Trojans in the backseat. He was a clean freak. He wiped down the backseat cushions with Armour All and buffed them with a fine shammy before each new ride.

Peace is good. I love Kylie and Madonna. My personal belief is that who gets top billing could be left up to the individual. I also think daylight savings time should be up to the individual: If you choose to set your clock back, that's okay. If you choose not to okay.:) On second thought, your more uniform top billing idea works better as consensus.

I remember RFTW. Digital Display with the refrain "36-24-36". More Madonna than Kylie so enjoying their standard is a concession of sorts. Curvy red Corvette.

Jean Paul Gaultier seems to be looking to the past to create his new designs and literally trying to re-create the iconic costumes he made for Madonna in the 90s, like that Gold creation Kylie wore during her show.. It's like an updated version of the conical basques Madonna wore during the Blonde Ambition Tour. Why can't Kylie fans just accept that Kylie IS influenced and inspired by Madonna? What's the problem?

Anyone that knows me well knows that I am a huge fan of Kylie Minogue. Kylie has an ability to take song written by average people and turn them into something worthwhile. She not only makes these songs better than the originals, she embarrasses the original artist to the point where they are no longer allowed to perform them live. Kylie did a cover version of Vogue that pretty much made Madonna stop performing the song for a period of 7 months or so I'm told by a reliable source who shall not be named.(Torture me, no big whoop!) Kylie does the same thing to so called "good songs" of the 70s. My favorite is obviously "Celebration." Kool and the Gang are freaking genius, but Kylie takes their song, rolls it in cornmeal batter and honey, fries it up and eats it while Kool stands in a puddle of his own joyful tears.

I remember one time where Kylie played London and decided she was going to cover "Come On Eileen" with a hot bi twist. Dexys Midnight Runners were there working the concession stand and Kylie came running onto the stage in a poodle skirt and penny loafers, slid on her knees, and wiggled like a cultivated banshee. She stood up, grabbed the mic and yelled POOR OLD JOHNNY RAE!!!! The crowd went nuts and started throwing fruit cups at each other. It was out of control, but so in control. Probably the greatest night London has ever seen.

Kylie rules the night while Madonna stays home and plays D & D with Ryan Seacrest.

I like Madonna and she's a good performer ( lights, dances and all together ) but my God, she can't sing!!! How can you let fans pay a ticket so expensive and not singing live and when singing, it's crap ???

You know what Kylie finds fun? She likes to get in her luxury sports cars and drive around looking for a delicious cheesecake bakery. When she gets there she asks for cheescake for the whole neighborhood - and then Kylie breaks off and sings a David Hasselhoff medley right in the middle of the place. It's a treat for the patrons, who twirl like Tazmanian Devils on a sugar rush. She usually get a standing ovation and about 19 phone numbers from beautiful male supermodels. Kids who look like heartthrobs from TeenBeat magazine follow Kylie around like puppies follow a kitten with a tenderloin tied to its collar. She has the ability to raise the level of the game and make people feel like they are being made fun of and still like it. So cheeky and cute and beautiful wrapped in a bow. And my friends and I, we love that about her.

I talked to Gary Gygax (creator of D&D) every day on EverQuest before he died, and Madonna has NEVER played D & D . EVER. But, judging from the new animated Speakerphone official video, Kylie would rule at fantasy gaming too. <3 KM

Kylie Minogue before she was a pop star was discovered by a British Guy called Pete Waterman, in her native Australia Kylie was a minor child star on a show called young talent time, it was a show where kids would mime songs from pop stars of the day. Kylie along with her sister Dannii would mime Madonna and other 80's hit songs, look on youtube! Kylie was about 11 years old (not stepping on the stage at all whilst Madonna ate out of gutters!). Kylies first major single release came in 1988 and in time she would become a household name in the UK and Australia, Pete Waterman also produced Bananarama and Rick Astley which gave rise to a rather tacky and commercial sound. Kylie was not taken seriously at all, in fact here in the UK she was known as the singing Budgie for her flat, tacky and mechanical vocals. Desperate to lose this childlike image she went in search of her idol, Madonna's producer, Stephen Bray. He helped craft a more sexier Kylie for her 1990 Rythm Of Love album and subsequent tour, which, at the time was heavily criticised by the British and Australian press for its overt references to Madonna's Blond Ambition Tour. Despite the heavy comparisons Kylie continued to forge a more sexier image garnering less critical acclaim than ever before but still placing her in Madonna's shadow. Her song Confide In Me was crafted by British dance outfit Anderson & Seamen whom later admitted that with that song they were trying to carve out a raunchier sound for her, they wanted it to be a Justify My Love meets Erotica but less controversial. After several years of more commercial and critical failiure Kylie finally went back to her pop roots and gave us Light Years the album, this was not a disco influenced album more pop with nodds to disco's past, many thought that it was overtly camp and thus pigeon holed her to the gay community, something her nemesis Madonna was able to avoid. Critical acclaim finally came when she gave us the Fever album, electro by nature it actually came 2 years after Madonna had popularised the movement with her Ray Of Light and Music albums. Kylies success has largely been limited to the UK and her native Australia, her earlier tours were dire! Her image was one of the girl next door and she struggled for years to gain any kind of credibility! I commend her for trying and pushing so hard but one cannot deny where her inspiration has come from, only a foll would deny the fact that she's drawn much inspiration for her shows, videos, costumes, choreographers and even musical styles from Madonna. Kylie even states in interviews that she is a huge Madonna fan, right from the early days when she was a child star on young talent time miming the words to Holiday and Like A Virgin. Kylie has not only used the fashion designers Madonna helped to promote (Gaultier, D&G) but shes also used choreographers, photographers and even producers like Anders & Bagge, Stephen Bray and currently Stuart Price! Here in Europe because we have seen both stars rise and rise, its easier for us to see how Kylie has emulated Madonna through her work, ive even been sat front row at a several Madonna tours and witnessed Kylie take her place like the rest of us with everyone from Julien Mcdonald to her sister Dannii Minogue. The last concert i saw her at was the Sticky & Sweet Tour in London. Kylie is a big fan of Madonna, she is the same age as me and if i was a huge Madonn afan in 1984 when Madonna was starting out then why couldnt Kylie? Here in Europe we know who the real deal is, its such a shame many Americans dont bother to research someone like Kylie before they criticise their own daughter! Madonna is a living legend the likes of we will never see again, shes in a totally different league to Kylie, and for a damn good reason!

Kylie Minogue was a child when Madonna first hit the bigtime, im from London and she has never sang about Come on Eileen, sounds to me you are trying so desperatly hard to make out Kylie came out when Madonna did, try 6 years later you idiot! Kylie is dreadful live and most of her shows take a big cue from Madonna's old tours!!

The problem lies in their roots, Madonna has always been seen as a credible artist who sits alongside legends such as Elvis and The Beatles. Kylie on the other hand comes from a pop stable that gave us Rick Astley and Bananarama.... catch my drift? Kylie lacked any credibility to her career until she did Cant Get You Out Of My Head, i hate her but even me with my venemous tongue i have to concede that with that song she finally made it. And thats just it, it took her nearly 20 years to be accepted, why? because she made cheesy pop songs with crap videos which mimicked Madonna's! Do you remember The Lets Get To It Tour and the press backlash?? She was HATED in the UK and Australia for years, she tried so hard to be sexy and rockish like Madonna but it failed, it just came across as your little sister wearing your moms underwear! In her Fever tour there is a section where she goes all street and displays Keith Harring prints on the projection screens, in the tour programme it describes that segment as cowboystyle, a homage to the underground scene of New York in 1982, it name drops Basquiat and Harring.... DOES SHE THINK WE ARE STUPID???? She was digging on Madonna's past!! Kylie's roots? She doesnt have any! A manufactured pop stable thats her past, responsible for making god awful cheesy tunes of the late 1980's, almost 6 years after Madonna's first release! As for the costumes etc, why else would Kylie be working with Gaultier? D&G? Stuart Price? Stephen Bray? because she's trying to create an identity for herself that people can relate too, shes hoping the success and credibility they gave Madonna will work for her, it wont! Madonna was 50% of those working relationships and Madonna is unique, no matter how much Kylie fans deny her influence, it will always come down to this. Kylie fans are to delusional to admit Kylies inspiration, they want to believe she is a legend like Madonna, but she is not. Madonna hasnt sold nearly 350 million albums worldwide because she is crap, or because she was inspired by someone who wasnt even an adult! She sold more because she is the more credible, people love her because shes good and Kylie knows that too. Why else would she be constantly working with Madonna's seconds? Stuart Price is co-producing her new album, i dont recall Madonna even working with one of Kylies photographers let alone Designers, choreographers or record producers! Kylie was 14 years old on an Australian TV show called young talent time, she used to mime old Madonna songs so i think you need to check your facts!! Kylie Minogue is pop lite fluff, her first proper tour didnt happen until 2001 with the Fever tour! By which time Madonna had been filling Stadiums with tours that would go on to inspire Kylies very own tours. Why else would Kylie be continually using Madonna's cast off designers and producers if she were that credible?! I belive shes now using Stuart Price for her next album! Shes a lazy fraud, if Madonna were to retire then so would she! Such is her need to rely on Madonna's ideas!
