I drove 200 miles and paid over $100.per ticket to see a musical genius and a musical treasure.
Jim Webb`s musical genius is undeniable. Glen Campbell is a musical treasure. While his touring is becoming less frequent, this weekend`s pairing with Webb gave Campbell a chance to showcase his still considerable talent. The Schermerhorn Symphony Center dazzled me in every way.The beauty and sound quality of the facility truly enhanced the music and vice versa. Both performers chose a very vanila program, opting for only safe, tried and true songs they had performed thousands of times. And, it showed.Slick, enjoyable, and great music performed by consumate pros. But,like Elvis, they both left me wanting more.Disappointed a bit, because two greats in a perfect setting, magnificent orchestorial backing, only managed a pretty good show. Campbell`s management team should adress his stale onstage cornpone patter. It was barely tolerable in Branson 5 or 6 yrs ago, but at 73, with his musical credentials, and still possessing most of his prodigious talent, he`s still doing the exact same routine. And, it needs adressed. It detracts from his show. There were moments of musical magic, but, sadly, only enough to make you look at a great night and wonder what could have been, or what once was. |

Glen Campbell is one of the greatest talents of the past fifty years. I have seen him many times on stage and he is fantastic.
Personally, there is no need for Glen to utilise other entertainers to sell records. He can do it all by himself. |
