Trial date set for man in death of girl, 17
A Johnson County judge set a trial date Monday for a 19-year-old De Soto man accused of killing his 17-year-old girlfriend.
Johnny Landa will go on trial Jan. 14 in the death of Griselda Del Real, 17, of De Soto. She died of injuries she suffered when she fell off the running board of Landa's Cadillac Escalade the evening of Aug. 31.
After listening to testimony from a 16-year-old girl, a county deputy coroner and a detective, District Court Judge John Bennett ruled that enough evidence existed to bind Landa over on a charge of second-degree murder/depraved indifference. Prosecutors dismissed a second charge of obstructing justice. Read more
