Residents speak out at Compton town hall

I am a resident of Compton. I am totally disagree that the illegal immigration is bringing crime to the community. So you saying that is alright that a black gang attack a latino, but when a latino gang attacks a black is not ok and the latino gang who attacks the blacks are illegals? I am dubious. This is the problem. The racism that is in the city. As we know we have racism black and latino residents living in Compton. As a high school student, I feared to walk to school;however, I still managed to go to school everyday. The people who are just kicking it in the Metro Station,smoking illegal substance and terrorsing the residents and visitors making Compton look bad is that something a problem to you? They are black? I guess that is not a problem to the residents because they are always cops passing by and they never tell them nothing. Yesterday, they illegaly cross the street and they stop traffic only to talk to someone in a car. I am outraged about all this. If things seemed to go how they are going on right now. I am for sure moving out of Compton. I am going to UCLA. We the resident could stop this racism and violence in our community report and get involve. Clean your house and make Compton look good. Have pride in Compton. I am a latino and know numerous of racism blacks as same of latinos.

I wanted to go to the City B-day celebration;however, I heard it was full with gangsters. Hopely in the next 5-years things change and we could all live in harmony.

I have also a question? What is Section 8? Is that like free money to pay your rent? Because I heard that instead of you paying rent the city pays your rent. Because thats just dopey. They have good cars and then they live free what a life(Gangsters).

Compton is a ghetto as city. Look att its streets. Look at its residents. Look att its school, our school looks like jails and yours look like prison. You dont have pride like us. I am a black woman who grew up in Compton back in the day, when blacks and Latinos lived in harmony. We could walk home from parties late at night with no fear..and no hassles.-- Blacks and Latinos always had each other's backs ...it was a fun time to grow up.

I still see a lot of my Latino high school friends and we have a good time.-- They, like me, can't understand what is going on today with all the hatred and people putting each other down.--They tell me the hatred started with the Mexican prison gangs and got out into the community. I don't know if that's true or not...but it makes a lot of sense. Blacks, along with Mexican-Americans (those born in this country or who came here young with their parents) were not racist back in the day. They were just trying to make it like everybody else was.

We are all in this world together and it's time we got back to respecting ourselves and respecting other cultures.-- Maybe some true prison reform would help too.

I am black and I think what is causing this is people(white or racist minorities) seeing that many minorities from the ghetto are rising up to become something of life and they hate this. Now, you see a black man trying to become the president of the United States of America. If you havent seen lately, white supremacist are loosing control and power from Brown and Black people. So what the last thing they want is Blacks and Brown united,because that would come to a totally bad situation for the white supremacists in the United States.Well this is a theory I heard in the park last month. Another thing that many old folks from the parks found out that thinking about it Latinos and Blacks have never had so much hated for each other as we are seeing right now. Some say the Media is causing all this. Which I strongly agree. Like few months ago, there was an a so-called "racial riot" in a local school well thats what some Newsbroacasters called it but it was no racial tension or racial riot it was between the two biggest gangs in that school that got in a fight one that was all Latino gang with a all Black gang! It was like a real black vs latino or latino vs black. oh yes and a black gang had the back of the latino gang if another gang try to join the other gang side. You see and many of the students see the news and take this to the streets. You should come and help Compton! We need more role models! Not gangsters but people with successful stories. One more thing Compton has change alot.!
