Don't forget about Jimmy Breslin! Cool stuff. The kids would dig it.

Summer time reading should be just that! Mostly for enjoyment and pastime, working on a tan, babysitting, or whatever 9th graders do (other than being indoors on a video game!) I have a life-time habit of reading at least one serious book per summer, and a lot of what book sellers call 'Spies and Guys'(Dan Brown, Cussler, etc). So I say "Bury the Brontes, once and for all" and let the kids read what they want... but, READ! Almost anything published will make them better writers and communicators.

I disagree with the reporter. While Big Papi might not be the classics, it still is reading. If that sort of book appeals to teens, and gets them to read, I think it's a very good thing.
