Chick Corea interview: What Miles Davis taught him about leading a band

Davis' seminal album, "Kind of Blue," recorded in 1959, 10 years before Corea joined his group, is the best-selling jazz album of all time, and it's considered one of the greatest jazz records ever made. Most significant of all is "Kind of Blue" was recorded with almost no rehearsal.

Filmmakers Dorothy Darr & Jeffery Morse have captured the amazing melange of sonic pleasures produced by jazz saxophonist/composer Charles Lloyd over his astonishing career with Arrows Into Infinity , a 113 minute documentary for ECM Records . The DVD chronicles Lloyd's career from his childhood inspirations to early days with Howlin' Wolf to his present career with his New Quartet featuring young masters pianist Jason Moran, drummer Eric Harland and bassist Reuben Rogers and his Sangam trio with Zakir Hussain and Eric Harland.

Between his tenure at Blue Note Records in the early to mid 1960's and his lengthy term with Columbia Records, keyboardist and composer Herbie Hancock made a handful of transitional recordings for the Warner Brothers label. These albums: Fat Albert Rotunda , Mwandishi and Crossings showed his burgeoning interest in electronic keyboards.

In addition, Cohen is the host and executive producer of Watch What Happens Live, Bravo's late-night interactive talk show, and has won an Emmy and two Peabody awards for his work.

Herbie Hancock is one of the greatest composers and jazz pianists of all time and in this video he's joined by Lionel Loueke: Guitar, Marcus Miller: Electric Bass, Vinnie Colaiuta: Drums and Bob Sheppard on Tenor Saxophone as they play "Cantaloupe Island." I remember seeing Bob Sheppard tour with Steely Dan back in the 90's and he was electric so I'm featuring him tonight because of two reasons.
