FOLKROCK pioneers Fairport Convention will play a concert in Nettlebed as part of their current UK tour.

Cromer's 15th Folk on the Pier Festival, dubbed the "Best Gig on the North Sea" comes to a musical end today with plenty of talented artists still to perform.

The event, which producer Scott Butler describes as "possibly the most important English folk-rock festival in the country", will see some of the genre's top names on stage at the pier's pavilion theatre, with an extensive fringe programme of artists performing at venues around the resort.

A number of great guitarists have graced local stages in the past several months - B.B. King, Steve Howe of Yes, Pat Metheny, Leo Kottke and Lindsey Buckingham, to name a few.

As a teenager in the 1960s, he co-founded the pioneering English folk-rock band Fairport Convention, which was the first group to fuse traditional Celtic music and rock.
