TASCHEN Books: Elvis Presley
The life and times of The King Elvis Presley would have been the first to laugh at the mad, godlike status he attained after death, but he would have surely identified with the human, gospel-haunted need such ...
Elvis clearly showed a lot of potential in his wonderful early movies. Critics often completely underestimate the colossal impact those movies had on cinema audiences at the time. "Loving You" starring Dolores Hart was almost a biographical study of Elvis himeself. It's a firm favourite with many Elvis Presley fans.Comments

In the DVD "Elvis '56" we can see the huge interest in the movie "Love Me Tender" in New York. Those scenes were repeated in cities throughout the world.
The title song haunts a geat many movie critics to this day.:-) |

"Love Me Tender" will always be THE SONG I identify Elvis with.... since that (and the movie) are what made my heart fall head over heels in whatever I am still feeling to this day for Elvis Presley.

I always believe Elvis has all the potential of being a great and accomplished movie actor. Perhaps, it is not part of his destiny to be one although he has all the chances to do so. Critics who has been unkind to Elvis career as a movie actor must have concentrated more on the negative side of his acting ability and never check on the other side of the coin. If you watch his acting in the movie King Creole you can sense what could have come next if he took his acting seriously.Anyway, as the saying goes you can not have the best of everything. Hello Tcb-girl and Maurice.

Hi Rico,
Elvis's acting would have gotten better and better with good material. Just as his voice deeped and got richer with time and experience... so would have his natural acting talents...had Elvis been given more opportunity. Really such a shame that some things turned out the way they did. I guess we have to look at the glass half full instead of half empty though. |

Yes Rico and TCB-girl, those early movies of Elvis gave us a fascinating glimpse of what could easily have been.
Nonetheless the first four movies made sure Elvis would always be remembered by many millions who saw him on the BIG screen at his peak. We were young and unmoved by the film critics.... what did they know? Elvis was beyond their experience......everybody's experience! http://irelandtoo.blogspot.com |

Yes TCB-girl, we know the truth about those wonderful 1950S Elvis movies. Revisionists may write their blinkered accounts but the truth goes marching on......... on DVD. :-)

Elvis was ALREADY a great actor. Anyone could see this from watching his first four movies. His reputation as an actor was ruined by the later bad SCRIPTS. NO ONE could do anything good with a script like Chataquaqua. Elvis one major fault was that he didn't have the self confidence to stand up for himself and say NO to the bad scripts. His lack of assertiveness is what ruined his career as an actor. |
